Schwartz Denies Gossip Girl Spin Off
June 13, 2008 by Kelly
Contrary to reports that indicated that a TV spin-off was in the works a la the book series, Producer Josh Schwartz says that no such thing is in the works.
Schwartz told E!, “Not sure how this got out there, but no plans for spinoff at this moment. The books do have a spinoff, but we have nothing in the works right now other than making sure season two gets off to a great start.”
Hmm. Maybe it’s the lawyer in me - but am I the only one who thinks “at this moment” was carefully placed?
Is A Gossip Girl Spin-Off In the Works?

Gossip Girl for TV might be getting a spin-off - just like in the books. Reportedly, the spin-off will center around Jenny being sent off to boarding school.
For those of you who aren’t familiar with the books, Jenny gets into trouble and is given the choice of repeating her freshman year of high school or going to a new school. Her adventures at the new school are chronicled in It Girl. Of course, Jenny also had big boobs and curly brown hair in the books - not at all like Taylor Momsen…
Will Gossip Girl for TV follow the books and spin off the series? That’s what the rumors would indicate. And the story line seems to support that idea… Jenny has been getting into trouble for awhile now. Stealing, drinking, lying, sneaking out. What’s a dad to do? But boarding school? One has to think, though, that this is more Lily than Rufus.
No word yet on whether the brass at CW have given the show an official seal of approval. Alloy Entertainment is shopping the series around and CW has the right of first refusal for any spin off. However, with low-ish ratings for Gossip Girl and rumblings that Dawn Ostroff is leaving the CW, no one knows for sure. I’ll keep you posted.
