Nymag.com discusses Gossip Girl flashback episode

May 16, 2009 by Cheril Vernon

GOSSIP GIRL Nymag.com’s Daily Intel always does this fun thing following the Gossip Girl episodes.

They add “imaginary” points for things they liked on Gossip Girl, ranging from Blair’s famed comments to small things they notice in the background. They also subtract “imaginary” points for things they don’t believe are up to par for the show. They take submissions from their readers as well.

For example, following The Gossip Girl flashback episode “Valley Girls,” here’s a sniplet from their article: “Plus 2 for the side eye Dorota gives Blair when Blair says she never looks at her prom scrapbook. The look just screamed "bitch, please!" Minus 5 for Cece’s ‘the boy from the valley’ line. Season 1 already established Rufus was the bane of Cece’s existence. There’s no need to introduce a new ‘unworthy’ suitor for Lily. — jnp1013”

Gossip Girl co-stars Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr kiss at Brit Night event

Jessica Szohr, Ed Westwick

Ed Westwick kisses girlfriend and Gossip Girl co-star Jessica Szohr during a break at the 2nd Annual Brit Night at the Los Angeles Galaxy’s Stadium, The Home Depot Center, in Carson, California on May 2.

Westwick looks pretty good in his uniform! I think it’s pretty cool to see the couple not hiding their relationship, and instead embracing it.

In conjunction with their game against the New York Red Bulls, LA Galaxy hosted the celebrity game that pitted British and American stars from sports, music, film and TV against one another. The event was just one of many for Brit Week 2009, a celebration of British contributions to Los Angeles. To learn more about Brit Week, please visit www.britweek.org.

Here are more photos of Westwick and Szohr at the event:

Kristin Bell wants Gossip Girl cast to come to the rescue!

April 10, 2009 by Cheril Vernon

Gossip Girl’s narrator Kristen Bell is asking Gossip Girl’s cast to come to the rescue for a special cause. In a comical way, Bell asks their help for something very serious because she knows they have a lot of influence over the younger generation.

She is asking the Gossip Girl cast to lend their support for a cause close to her heart, Invisible Children, for its worldwide event on April 25.

Basically, the event will help in the campaign to stop the use of child soldiers in Uganda — children who are abducted against their will and taken from their families to fight in this rebel war by rebel leader Joseph Kony.

During the April 25 event, those participating will “abduct themselves” to raise the awareness of the situation, hoping to get government and international bodies to develop strategies and support existing efforts to rescue the child soldiers.

I hope they participate as it’s not about war or rebel armies. It’s about a crime against children, against humanity. Events on April 25 are being held in 100 cities.

Gossip Girl 2.20 "The Remains of the J" finger puppet recap

April 3, 2009 by Cheril Vernon

SOAPnet has been doing an excellent job with its Gossip Girl finger puppet recaps, and their recap of 2.20 “The Remains of the J” episode is a perfect example. Sometimes they break parts of the episode down in simple terms that make it so easy to laugh at when you see how they do it.

They do a good job in this recap of explaining why Jenny wouldn’t be thrilled with a birthday party filled with people she can’t stand. Though Serena and Lily don’t really see why.

Of course, Jenny’s idea of a birthday party wasn’t that great either (chili and board games).

Puppet Chuck, as always, is in great form. This time in his Hugh Hefner-looking robe as he works up a scheme with Vanessa and they end up in bed together.

And poor Puppet Nate. But he does get to kiss Blair at the end.

Gossip Girl puppet recaps for episodes 2.18 and 2.19

March 25, 2009 by Cheril Vernon

SOAPnet.com’s Gossip Girl finger puppet recaps always crack me up in one way or another. They do such a great job dissecting the episodes for fans and making fun of things that we don’t think of until we see it in their puppet recaps.

Above is the Gossip Girl 2.19 “The Grandfather” finger puppet recap of Monday night’s newest episode. I love the Chuck-Blair part at the end! Too funny and so true! And Rufus reading off Lily’s LONG list of past lovers (including Trent Resner and Slash).

After the jump, watch the Gossip Girl 2.18 “Age of Dissonance” finger puppet recap where Carter calls Chuck a “douche”! They do a great job of reenacting the play scene.

K.R. (krizziaricafort@msn.com) is the winner of the Blair & Dorota Gossip Girl Caption Contest which ended this week!

I posted the Blair & Dorota Gossip Girl Caption Contest on Feb. 11 and admittedly didn’t do very much to promote it. But I still did love the entries I received. Thank you to everyone who participated.

Here was K.R.’s photo caption:

Dorota: I do not like this plan, Miss Blair….
Blair: Don’t worry about it, Dorota, just smile….
Dorota: Alright, but why do I have to smile??
Blair: Come on Dorota, haven’t you learned by now that Gossip Girl has eyes everywhere?? So, Smile….
Dorota: (Smiles) How ’bout this??
Blair: Perfect. Just don’t be so tense….

Dorota smiles awkwardly while walking with the devious Miss Blair…..

K.R. has won two really cute headbands so she can look just like Blair!

Be on the look out for more caption contests and other giveways on Gossip Girl Report in the future.

EXCLUSIVE: Behind the scenes with SOAPnet.com’s Gossip Girl puppets!

February 22, 2009 by Cheril Vernon

SOAPNET.com-behind-the-scenes-gossip-girl-puppets-2.JPG

Recently I had the opportunity to talk with Megan Lynn, a producer for SOAPnet.com, who works with a brilliant team on their original Gossip Girl finger puppet parodies for season two. These little two-minutes recaps of episodes are truly the funniest things around if you are a GG fan.

Here’s a sample of one of my favorite finger puppet episodes “New Haven Can Wait”:

How did the Gossip Girl finger puppet recaps come about?

We had started covering and recapping prime time soaps on SOAPnet.com, and wanted a fun way to let people know. Gossip Girl puppets came out of that brainstorming session. We’re all Gossip Girl fans, but I consider myself the teen angst expert – Gossip Girl, 90210, One Tree Hill, Friday Night Lights… It’s fun to lampoon a genre I love so much.

How long does it take to “film” a puppet recap in general?

We shoot them every Tuesday at noon after there’s been a new episode. They take about an hour to an hour and a half, depending on how many people are in it, how many backgrounds, etc.

Who are the “actors” for the finger puppet recaps? Does everyone enjoy playing their characters?

The actors are all employees at SOAPnet.com. I’m in the editorial department, and a number of the other voices are as well. But we also bring in people from video, design, production, tech. We’re just dying for the show to get a Southern character so we can have our photo editor do a part.
