“Gossip Girl” Spin-Off a Go!

Wohoo! Great news for Gossip Girl fans! The CW has announced that a pilot episode for the Gossip Girl spin-off series will be shot!
The spin-off series, created by Gossip Girl producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, will be a prequel, focusing on the life of Serena’s mother, Lily Van Der Woodsen.

The potential new series, if the pilot is good!, will focus on Lily as a troubled teenager in the 80s in LA. We’ll follow Lily as she moves out of her family home in Montecito, where she’s led a very wealthy lifestyle, to live with her outcast sister in the Valley. She’ll start going to public school and will be surrounded with the glitz and excesses of Hollywood (a little different than New York!)
The pilot has not been cast (since it’s a prequel, it will be a whole new cast) and is still untitled. They hope to cast and shoot the pilot for air on May 11, 2009 in place of a regular Gossip Girl episode.

eh. replacing gossip girl? this show better be good. i think it might be a drag. i love chuck and blair, and with a whole new cast, we wont see them anymore. i dont think this will become popular.
and did i mention how idiotic it is to air this on a gossip girl day? i mean, my god people. get a grip.
I don’t know about this. I mean, I’m a huge Gossip Girl fan, and I’m totally in favor of a spin-off, but focusing on Lily? It’s a risky move. It could either totally pay off or crash and burn. It’ll be interesting to see which.
