Why we love Gossip Girl’s bad boy Chuck

So why do we love the bad boy?
Gossip Girl’s Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) is the textbook example of a guy you probably shouldn’t like — he’s arrogant, rude and manipulating. He’s a womanizer and he drinks like a fish!
But, we love him (or at least some of us do). He’s the tortured soul you can’t help yourself from loving. Just ask Blair (Leighton Meester) — who is in denial over her feelings for him. Nothing Chuck does pleases his father Bart (Robert John Burke) — and everyone he’s loved has left him one way or the other.
Author Jennifer Estep discusses the love-hate relationship women have for Chuck’s character as well as her love for Gossip Girl, and wants to know what characters on television do you love no matter what they do.
Speaking of men — why do we as women enjoy the bad boys on television and in books we read, but then end up in relationships with the “nice guy”? Author Kara Lennox compares Fantasy Men vs. Good Husbands in a recent post worth reading as well.
Here’s a fan video that shows the depth of Chuck’s character:
