“Summer, Kind of Wonderful” Recap, Episode 2.01

The Gossip Girl Season Two premiere is finally here! It’s been a long, hot summer already…

Serena and Dan are apart - as are Blair and Chuck. Erik, likewise, is on his own.

The show opened in the Hamptons. Serena is by herself. Nate is making out with his new older hottie (Madchen Amick). Chuck is being… well, Chuck.

Jenny is interning at Waldorf Fashions. She apparently was hoping for something much more glamourous than being bullied by a Devil Wears Prada-like boss named Laurel.

Dan is playing around this summer during his post-Serena phase. Like Jenny, he also had an internship but in an un-Dan like moment, he’s been too preoccupied with his social life to finish his work. He shortly joins the ranks of the unemployed.

Serena tells Chuck that Blair will never forgive him for what he did to her… which begs the question, how much does she know?

Blair and Chuck spar over her new boyfriend, James. He is clearly her rebound guy - Blair, Chuck and Serena realize this. Blair is out for revenge and she plays tough. She surreptitiously puts her heart pin on James’ sleeve so that Chuck would see it during his “Who Knows Blair Waldorf Best?” quiz. She tells Chuck that she has the same feelings for James that she used to have for Chuck - James is oblivious.

Nate’s fling with a married woman, Catherine, gets dangerous when her husband comes home early from a business trip. It’s out the window for Nate - and in front of Serena’s date’s Camaro (yes, you read that right, Camaro).

Nate wants to go to the White Party to see Catherine’s husband. Against her better judgment, Serena agrees to be Nate’s fake date for the party. The whole time, Catherine acts annoyed with Nate and Nate wants revenge. Serena and Nate make out in front of her to make her jealous - and guess who sees? Dan, who has come to the party as Serena’s grandmother’s date.

Blair can’t keep her story straight when it comes to James… or is she being mislead? Chuck is on the case, with Erik in tow. They believe that James may be using Blair. James then realizes that Blair is using him, too, and calls her on it.

Tinsley Mortimer makes a cameo - as herself. She played a friend of Erik’s, and Jenny took the opportunity to introduce herself. Jenny wore a dress to the White Party that she made, a fact that Tinsley noted, to Laurel’s dismay.

Catherine confronts Nate at the party about his kiss with Serena and they end up having sex. No surprise there.

Blair apologizes (sort of) to James. James comes clean, too. He confesses that he’s a Lord (as in British royalty) and that his real name is Marcus. Blair is wildly impressed. Chuck is nonplussed, having discovered this fact himself.

Dan and Serena make up. The whole process is cathartic for Dan, who finds himself able to write again.

Chuck begs Blair not to leave. She asks him for a reason - he says that she doesn’t want to. Then he says that he doesn’t want her to. She wants him to say that he loves her but he can’t say it. She leaves with Marcus.
