Is the Writers’ Strike Over? Maybe.
I’ve gotten lots of email proclaiming that the strike is over. Great! If only it were true. The strike might be over.
A tentative deal has been reached by representatives from both sides but the membership of the Writers Guild of America has not yet approved the deal. If that happens, then the Board could vote on Sunday to have writers back to work as soon as Monday.
The deal is reportedly similar to one reached last month by the Directors Guild of America. At odds was the question of revenue from material on the internet. This, of course, affects writers of shows like Gossip Girl, which rely heavily on distribution via the web.
So what does this mean for shows like Gossip Girl? In theory, it could mean that if the WGA votes yes and the writers get back to work on Monday, new episodes could be airing in mid-April. A script takes about three weeks to write and about 40 working days to produce. So there might - and I really mean might - be an opportunity for Gossip Girl to squeeze in those remaining seven episodes by the end of the season.
If you’re anxious to let the CW brass know that you want the return of Gossip Girl to be a top priority, you can always send them an email.
