“Hi Society” Recap
It’s the debutante ball and cotillion!
Blair makes a change to her dance card, choosing to go with a Prince Theodor instead of Nate due to Nate’s recent behavior.
Nate, looking like he hadn’t showered in a week, tells Chuck that he doesn’t understand Blair anymore and that he might miss her. Chuck thinks her new “glow” has something to do with him but he won’t say.
Everyone seems to make an appearance at the Prescott Dance Studio to learn some moves. Jenny actually looks 14 - though no one is quite sure why she chose to attend. Dan says she “lives for this stuff” and Lily encourages her to volunteer at the ball.
“Cece”, Serena’s grandmother and namesake (Celia is part of Serena’s middle name), makes an appearance. Dan explains why he is glad that Serena isn’t going to the ball.
Chuck and Blair are apparently over their spat - they were making out at Blair’s house. Guess who stops by while they’re getting hot and heavy? Nate, of course. Nate begs Blair to go to the ball and she turns him down - the first time. Eventually, she acquiesces and says that they can go together as friends. Chuck is clearly disappointed.
To have been all hot and heavy to have her mother home, Jenny wasn’t very grateful when her mother shows her a pair of cool secondhand shoes that she found at a thrift shop. Perhaps it’s because Jenny’s newfound volunteerism will coincide with Alison’s art opening - and Rufus won’t let her do both.
Celia tells Lily and Serena that she had a health scare - and that she wants to see Serena make her debut. Is it me or do you get the feeling that Celia might not be on the up and up?
Blair is late to Nate’s fitting. Chuck texts Blair during the fitting and Blair ditches Nate.
Lily and Jenny go shopping at a high end store - and run into Alison.
Remember Carter Baizen? The druggie with the gambling problem? He’s Serena’s date for the ball. Serena’s grandmother made the match. She clearly doesn’t like Dan and gives him a dressing down while Serena isn’t around. She tells him that girls like Serena don’t date boys like “Dan Humphrey” and that some day, he will end up as a cocktail party anecdote. Furious, Dan tells Serena that he is her new escort for the ball.
Nate asks Chuck to figure out if Blair is seeing someone… Chuck arrives in time to hear Blair tell the New York Times that Nate is always a gentleman. He is jealous and makes a scene, making Blair angry. She throws him out and tells him that Carter is back in town.
Celia offers to buy all of the paintings in the gallery if Rufus will talk Dan out of taking Serena to the ball. Rufus tells Celia that neither he nor Dan can be bought. Celia tells Rufus that Serena, like Lily, can be. She goes on to tell Rufus that Lily chose her inheritance over him, at Celia’s request.
Jenny is supposed to be grounded after the art gallery show but is angry at her parents when she finds out that Dan is still going.
Dan goes early to see Serena in order to talk to her about her grandmother. Serena is upset and asks Dan to leave. Serena’s grandmother quickly arranges to have Carter take her to the ball.
Chuck baits Nate about Carter and Nate eventually decks Carter. Blair is furious at Nate for the hit and for ripping her dress.
Blair puts Jenny in an awkward situation; when it’s time for her to leave, Blair tells her to fix her dress and all is forgiven.
Carter alter’s Serena’s debut presentation statement to be not quite so proper - and Celia is horrified. Serena believed that the original was Lily’s idea and was annoyed. She tells her mother that she is hurt that she won’t accept her for who she is and storms off.
Serena nurses Carter and they chat about old times. Apparently, they had quite a past - and Serena regrets that it ever happens.
Dan gets a phone call - at first, I thought it would be from Serena. But it’s not. It’s Lily. She tells him that she believes that he has been a good influence on Serena and encourages him to go to her.
Blair realizes that Chuck had a role in the Nate/Carter skirmish and tells him that things are finally over. She flees and Chuck follows her. He sees her kissing Nate just before they disappear into a closed room. Nate and Blair have sex and a distraught Chuck flees the country.
Serena confronts her grandmother about the evening. Celia confesses that she is not ill (I knew it!). Serena is stunned. Later, Celia packs away some medicines. Hmm.
Alison lectures Jenny about “the person she’s becoming” - Um, kettle? Black?
Rufus calls Lily to talk about what Celia told him. He tells her that he never should have let her let him go. (Well, duh, he’s a hottie!) Lily sees Serena and Dan and realizes that she made the right decision about calling Dan.
A really good episode - despite the fact that I had to watch it alone (too many viruses and flus going around - plus a couple of inches of snow on the ground).
Til next week,
XOXO

OMIGOSH!!!! I loved that episode and it ended with my favorite song, Apologize. I’m bummed though that Blair and Chuck aren’t together, I like the bad boy types I guess! I hope thats not the last we see of him for this season, if it is, I think a part of me might die! Love the show! Katina

If Nate didn’t appreciate Blair till she was gone, then he doesn’t appreciate her. Hmph. >_

Chuck loves Blair so much, he just doesn’t know how to express it properly! (Hello, him pulling the Carter stunt was totally out of jealousy!) If Chuck and Blair don’t get together, I think I will cry myself a river!
And I do NOT like Alison. Lily is way cooler.
