Gossip Girl Rocks

It’s apparently not enough that there are high profile music tracks on each episode of Gossip Girl.  On last week’s episode, the producers took it a step further with a Guitar Hero 2 throw down between Serena and Vanessa.

Now, I’ll confess:  I haven’t the slightest clue about Guitar Hero (though I did stick around on the web site to listen to the opening of “Welcome to the Jungle.”  I couldn’t tell the difference between versions 2 or 3.  Frankly, I didn’t even know there were different versions.

But the game is huge.  Ginormously huge.  And how do I know this?  The squeals of my real life, grown up friends when they saw it on the screen.  They happen to be addicted own the game.

So I did a little research for those of us who are video-game impaired.  Guitar Hero is a video game available for Xbox, PlayStation and Wii.  It was first introduced in 2005 and there are now several versions, including an 80s version.

The game features - you guessed it - songs in which guitar is prominent.  Using a guitar shaped “controller”, the players simulate playing the songs.  Colored markers indicate the notes on the screen - the player has to match the colored notes on time to the controls on the guitar.  There is an on-screen meter that shows how well you’re doing.  If you do terribly, you can get booed off of the stage.

I’m gonna say that it doesn’t sound all that fun to me.  But clearly I’m in the minority because it has sold more than 1.5 million copies.  Not too shabby.
