“Seventeen Candles” Recap
Blair goes to confession (even though she’s not Catholic). The priest’s advice? “Don’t drink. Keep your clothes on. Try to avoid those who might cause you to stray.”
On the way out, Blair is confronted by Chuck. Chuck reminds Blair of their night in the limo. Blair tells him that the prior evening will never be spoken of again. She then uninvites Chuck from her 17th birthday party.
Dan and Serena have a date at the cafe… where Vanessa has a job.
Jenny brings her mom home, much to Rufus’ surprise. Rufus and Alison are clearly uncomfortable with each other at first but later share a kiss.
Nate’s father’s indictment makes the headline of the paper. Nate wants to listen to the lawyer’s advice but his father says that he will be cleared. Nate’s mother asks Nate to give Blair the family ring in order to keep Blair’s mother happy. Nate doesn’t want to since they are officially broken up - but his mother asks him to do it anyway.
Blair gives Nate a call. He tells her that he has a birthday present for her. She assumes that it is the necklace that she put on hold.
Chuck tells Nate that he knows that Blair and Nate have broken up. He advises Nate to walk away. He tells Nate that he only cares about three things, “money, pleasures that money brings me and you.”
Blair figures out that Chuck has a thing for her. He admits that he has a thing for her and she tells him to get over it.
Nate runs into Jenny. He wants to take a walk. Jenny wonders what Blair would think.
Dan brings Vanessa to Blair’s birthday party.
(As an aside, Blair’s party is an anime theme. Guitar Hero 2. Sushi.)
Serena and Vanessa compete in a Guitar Hero throwdown. Serena plays Leonard Skynyrd. Vanessa threatens to play Warrant’s Cherry Pie. Serena leaves before Vanessa plays because she is offended that Dan told Vanessa that his mother is back in town, but didn’t tell her.
Blair and Chuck make a bet that Nate won’t call her at midnight - he always calls at midnight on her birthday. The wager? If Nate calls at midnight, Chuck will leave Blair alone forever. If Nate doesn’t call, Blair will spend the night with Chuck.
Nate didn’t call. And the photo of him putting Jenny into the car made rounds on the internet - only no one knows that it was Jenny. Everyone saw the photo, so Blair announced that she and Nate had broken up. Blair is devastated - and those butterflies that Chuck had for Blair? He’s not feeling so great.
Nate tells his parents that he won’t give Blair the ring.
Chuck comes by to give Blair her birthday present. He bought her the diamond necklace that she thought that Nate had gotten for her. She doesn’t know what to think.
