Ratings for Gossip Girl Reason to Cheer
According to the CW, Gossip Girl had a great week with its airing of “Victor, Victrola” besting Bionic Woman in the coveted women 18-34 demographic.
Together with America’s Next Top Model, Gossip Girl helped The CW score second on Wednesday night in the women 18-34 demographic, behind only ABC. The night brought solid numbers, bringing the CW its largest audience (3.8mil) and best teen (2.7/7) and female teen (4.3/14) ratings since mid-October.
So this means you’re watching, right?

I don’t think it was meant to replace Gilmore Girls. It has a distinctly different vibe.
That said, I was (am?) a huge fan of Gilmore Girls and I think what made it work, other than snappy dialogue was a great cast and a sense of place. Gossip Girl has those same attributes.

I REALLY HATE THIS SHOW!!!
It’s just all about stupid, spoiled, bed-hopping, alcohol-drinking, teenagers that have soo much money but can never ever be happy. I would just like to know - what kind of example is this show setting for the teenage girls that watch?!
Teenagers will think that in order to be accepted in the modern world you have to be a skinny preety plastic HO-BAG!WHORE! How sad… :(
Sorry for the rant, but I really think this is a horrible show.
…I admit I watch… but, maybe just because I love watching those stupid spoiled rich kids SUFFER!!!

I actually don’t think that it sets a bad example for teens any more than any other show - and I’m a mom.
Do I want my children to engage in this kind of behavior? Of course not.
But I do think, as Blake Lively says, that it’s cautionary. Most of the story lines show consequences for bad behavior - much different than, say, your average soap opera.
They show drinking and drugs not so much as fun, but as a way of dulling senses. And the consequences - Serena’s indiscretions, the near drowning, etc. - are consistent with the idea that it’s not for fun.
