And so it begins…
Tomorrow, there will no doubt be lots written about the Gossip Girl premiere. This evening, friends and I gathered at our Premiere Party to eat, drink and dish on the fall’s hottest show. The consensus? Thumbs up.
Was it great television? No.
Was it fun television? Definitely.
The premiere episode was a little over-done, I think, a case of trying to do too much too soon. Those who weren’t familiar with the series had a lot of questions about what was going on… The plan was likely to introduce the characters really quickly. Since I was familiar with the books, it worked fine for me. But my friends who didn’t know the characters were trying to keep up (maybe they should have read Gossip Girl Report).
Overall, however, it was fast-paced and interesting. The clothes - and the people - were beautiful (many a Coach bag, as my friend, Kristin, pointed out), the music was awesome.
And here are random quotes from the gang re the show:
- Teenagers don’t say “Can I borrow you?”
- The Dad’s way hotter than Jim Walsh (regarding Jenny’s dad).
- He’d be James Spader in “Pretty in Pink” (regarding Chuck).
- I hate this mom (regarding Blair’s mom).
- Ass tapped, nuts cracked (referring to Blair’s sex-capade and Serena’s kick at Chuck).
- Seriously, she’s making her own dress? That’s so Pretty in Pink (when Jenny is making her dress).
- Is that the equivalent of my mother chasing me around with the room with Love’s baby soft saying, “A woman needs a scent” (regarding Blair’s mom’s statement that ‘you will never be as beautiful or thin or happy as you are right now’).
Great fun! I can’t wait for next week!
